Each year, the Foundation provides funding to the State Fair to make improvements to a variety of programs and experiences on the fairgrounds. This year, one of the many things we’re excited to help elevate is a uniquely Minnesota competition: Crop Art!
The Crop Art competition’s popularity continues to grow, both in the number of participants and fair guests viewing the beauty, creativity, and humor of each year’s entries. The Foundation is working with the Minnesota State Fair to improve the Farm Crops wing of the Agriculture Horticulture Building. We are planning on sprucing up the display space and determining what improvements will enhance sightlines and decrease wait times for viewing the seedy displays. The Crop Art will be intermingled with the Farm Crops exhibits, connecting the art to its origins in Minnesota agriculture.
Crop art is an intricate and unique art form and is thought to have originated on farms, where people had an abundance of seeds and were less busy in the winter, so they glued seeds to boards to make pictures. The crop art competition has been a Minnesota State Fair tradition since 1965.
